Cannabis On It's Way To Be Rescheduled
I see in a lot of places that cannabis has already been taken from schedule 1 and placed into schedule 3. This is false, it has not gone through the official process of being rescheduled. However, yesterday was a big day for cannabis. Senate sent a spending bill to President Trump's desk, according to Marijuana Moment. This same bill continues to protect state level medical marijuana programs from federal intervention as well as does not include any language to block rescheduling. This last part is key.
It's very important people realize that cannabis has not officially been rescheduled yet. While rescheduling does not legalize the plant in any form, it does solidify the governments acceptance that there is medical value with the plant. Rescheduling can open the door to many other things. The reason to point this out is it hasn't happened yet, thus the discussions need to continue on. I don't think people should sit idly by thinking what we have for a long time, "it's legal in some places, so it's a non-issue." This kind of thinking is what causes people to suffer as well as still get arrested.
With the news that the senate did not attempt to stop rescheduling, that is more than enough to see that some movement will happen soon. Sadly, when it comes to political topics, soon can mean before 6 months to 2ish years. I say this because of midterms and presidential elections. We have midterms coming up so my most optimistic guess is by November of this year. This is not me saying I think it will be done this year.
I do believe since we haven't seen anything (on the rescheduling process) so far and it's almost hit the 1 month mark since the signing that we will be facing some sorts of road blocks, to which I hope I am wrong here.
Cannabis may not be schedule 3, but the fact the Senate sent a spending package to Trump without trying to block rescheduling when he just announced it is a big indicator of things to come.
Here's to hoping rescheduling happens soon.
I do not think legalization will happen under the current administration unless the Democrats take the super majority this midterm election cycle. However, this does not mean that things can't change, and I do certainly think it's possible the President could change his outlook on this topic. To his credit, he's listened to the majority of Americans when those in the legislation have not thus far seen by the historic call for rescheduling.
Also, according to google AI the chances of a super majority win for democrats is highly unlikely.
This is not me saying I'm a republican or democrat.
Obviously my outlook on this could be incorrect. We shall see what happens, but I do think we're going to have some pretty big changes in the cannabis sector within the next year.
